Photographers… be afraid. Be very afraid! Have a look at this video to see what I mean.

Ok, I’m just kidding about the whole “be afraid” thing, but it certainly is impressive to think that it is possible to create an ultra realistic portrait like that with just an iPad and your fingertips – there’s almost no need for a camera anymore! Kyle Lambert, a visual artist from the UK created this excellent recreation of a portrait of Morgan Freeman in around 200 hours using a painting software for the iPad called Procreate.

The lifelike illustration is based off a photo from photographer Scott Gries, so Kyle did have a point of reference for this long and detailed project. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the original image on Scott’s portfolio website, but I think it’s fairly safe to assume it is a true interpretation.

So, here’s my question for the photographers out there… Do you think that this kind of technology has an effect on you as a photographer? Even before the digital age, ultra-realistic paintings have existed, but does the iPad and the ease by which it is accessed change anything? Are you worried that the camera will eventually be replaced, or is it a non-issue?

Let us know in the comments! We’d love to know what you think.
