The Think Tank Pixel Pocket Rocket is certainly a challenging product name to say out loud, but it’s one product name that you should learn to pronounce. As a wedding photographer, I typically go through multiple memory cards over the course of a day, and sometimes it can be a pain to try to organize all of those cards. The last thing I want is to get home after a day of shooting only to find that I’ve misplaced one or more of my memory cards. At the end of the day, those cards are not just cards, but they hold the memories that the newlyweds will want to remember forever.

So, when I saw the Pixel Pocket Rocket, I knew I had to try it out. A big problem I’ve had with many other memory card holders and wallets is that they’re not always that easy to get to, and when it comes to organization, they’re not very well laid out. The nice thing about this one is that it can hold up to ten cards in a very well organized manner, yet it still folds up to an extremely small size – perfect for the times when I don’t want to carry a large bag or don’t have much space to spare.

Shooting with a Nikon D3s, I always shoot redundantly onto two memory cards at a time. Even though it does cost me a bit more, as every two cards technically counts as one, I feel much better knowing that if one card does corrupt, I still have a second to fall back on. I’ve developed a bit of a system with my Pixel Pocket Rocket. Every pair of cards obviously takes up one row in this card holder. Unused cards are placed graphic-side out. Once I’ve filled up a pair of cards, I place them back into their slots, but with the graphic-side in. This way, I can tell at first glance how many cards I’ve used, and how many I have left – a great thing to know so you don’t go wild with shooting and run out of memory half way through the day.

Another great, yet often overlooked, feature of this memory card holder is that it also doubles as a business card holder. When fully opened, business cards can be slipped into the slot at the top, and it even has a window so you can proudly display your brand – or, in case it gets lost, a good samaritan may see it and help return it to you. I prefer this to keeping my business cards in a separate case while shooting, because it makes one less thing that I have to carry.

All-in-all, if you’re looking for an easy way to carry and organize a large number of memory cards, the Pixel Pocket Rocket is a great solution. They even make a smaller version called the Pee Wee Pixel Pocket Rocket, which holds 4 Compact Flash cards and 3 SD cards, as well as an SD only version called the SD Pixel Pocket Rocket, which holds 9 SD cards.
